The average student debt in the UK is over £10,000, and with the interest rate on student loans now moving up to 3.1% (Sept 2003), the repayment can be an serious burden.
In the US student debts are often significantly more - for example the University of Texas provided an average student debt on graduation chart showing graduates from their dental branch in 2002 had an average debt of over $70,000.
